Why Hungry Little Neighbors Cooking Club?

Hungry Little Neighbors: Saturday Cooking Club grew out of my desire to bring all my worlds together — food, culture, and childhood wonder — into one cozy, joyful space.

In a time when the world can feel divided, I believe food is still our most universal language. When kids learn to cook, share, and taste together, they’re also learning empathy, curiosity, and community.

This club is my way of helping young people grow into kind, open-hearted neighbors — the kind who celebrate every culture, every flavor, and every story.

Meet the Chef!

Hi, I’m Jordan Wimby — chef, food historian, and full-time career nanny with a deep love for storytelling, culture, and community.

My journey with food started with The Melanin Martha, where I explored the stories and histories behind the meals that bring us together. That passion for food and storytelling led to features in The Chicago Reader and WBEZ Chicago, where I’ve shared about the intersection of food, culture, and identity.

Most recently, I had the honor of contributing research and culinary insight to The American South, the newest cookbook by food historian and chef Michael Twitty, published by Phaidon Press.

Beyond the kitchen, I’ve spent more than a decade as a career nanny, dedicated to nurturing curiosity, kindness, and creativity in children. Working so closely with families has taught me that food is more than nourishment — it’s a language of love, learning, and connection.
